Diana Johnson, Labour MP for Hull North

I am Hull North’s local Labour Member of Parliament. First elected in May 2005, and re-elected in May 2010, I work hard representing the Hull wards of Avenue, Beverley, University, Bransholme East, Bransholme West, Orchard Park and Greenwood, Bricknell, King’s Park and Newland. Although this website only covers a small fraction of my activity, I hope that it provides a useful insight into the nature of my work for Hull North.

Dear Editor

I have followed with interest recent letters in the Mail concerning breastfeeding.

The Government’s new Equality Bill currently going through Parliament contains new protection for pregnant women and new mothers. This will include making it unlawful to force breastfeeding mothers and their babies out of public places such as coffee shops, buses, galleries and restaurants.

This will help to give women confidence that the law is on their side and, I hope, change some old-fashioned attitudes.

Yours sincerely
