Scrooges deny Hull children and pensioners free swimming

Hull’s Lib Dem Council is denying thousands of local kids and pensioners free swimming this Christmas.

The Labour Government has funded the free swimming scheme to get millions of people enjoying regular exercise - but Scrooge Lib Dems refused to take the money.

The scheme is designed to get people across the country involved in regular exercise, but people in Hull are being denied help that millions of people across the country are enjoying. As a result Hull is also missing out on extra Government money to upgrade local swimming pools.

Labour Government boost for North Bransholme

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has welcomed the Labour Government’s announcement giving North Bransholme Estate tenants the opportunity to decide the future of their homes.

In a Commons statement released yesterday (16 December), Housing Minister Rt Hon John Healey MP announced that the North Bransholme Estate will join the national Housing Stock Transfer Programme.

Lauren is Hull MP’s Christmas winner

Eleven year old Lauren Fenton of Sidmouth Primary School has won the annual competition for Hull North Primary School pupils to design Diana Johnson MP’s official Christmas card.

Competition Judge Lara King, the BBC Radio Humberside presenter, announced the news today (11 December) live on her radio show after Lauren’s winning design was selected from hundreds of entries.

Hull MP welcomes support for pensioners in Pre-Budget Report

Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson has welcomed today’s Pre-Budget Report and the Government’s continuing support for pensioners.

The Pre-Budget report announced a 2.5% increase in the basic state pension.

Measures announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Pre-Budget Report include:

• Increases the full basic state pension by £2.40 to £97.65 a week in April 2010.

• Increases the full couples’ pension by £3.85 to £156.15 in April 2010.
