Hull MP raises fears over loss of disability mobility vehicles

Mobility carHull North MP today raised concerns in the Commons over how many disabled people in Hull will lose their mobility cars under Coalition welfare reforms.

Speaking in the Commons, Diana Johnson MP asked: “There are currently 3,200 Motability Scheme customers in Hull. Can we have a debate on the floor of the House to explore what proportion of these will lose their mobility vehicles when their eligibility is reviewed, under the Coalition’s Personal Independence Payments, between October 2013 and 2018?”

Local MP hits out at pension reforms as Hull women set to lose out

House of Commons Library research released by Labour reveals the true cost of last week’s pensions reforms to 1,600 Hull women who are set to lose out.

Women born in 1952 and 1953 will not be eligible for the single tier pension since they are due to retire in 2017, before the state pension reforms come into effect. Men born during the same period, however, will qualify.

The news comes after the Government claimed that "we have to be absolutely transparent”, yet he failed to make clear the full consequences of the planned reforms.

Hull MP raises plight of Hull North family losing £80 a month under Bedroom Tax

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has raised the impact of the Bedroom Tax on a Bransholme family in the Commons today.

The Hooper family will lose £80 a month because they are deemed to be ‘under-occupying’ under the new Bedroom Tax rules. The seven members of the family live in a four bedroom dwelling. One of their four children is disabled.

Minister confirms withdrawal of local job-seeker statistics

Employment Minister Mark Hoban has written to Diana Johnson MP confirming that monthly official statistics on the number seeking each job in local constituencies will no longer be available.

The Coalition Minister’s letter tells the Hull North MP that “we are working towards” having “broadly similar data available to that under the previous JobCentre Plus vacancy system”, but gives no guarantee about when such information will start to be available.

The letter follows Diana Johnson MP raising the issue in the House of Commons last Thursday (17 January).

Speaking in the House of Commons, Diana Johnson MP said: “Hull has always been a strong recruiting ground for the armed forces, but alongside these redundancies, pay and pensions are being cut and many will be affected by the strivers’ tax and the bedroom tax.
