Botched Coalition announcement shows why Bedroom Tax must be axed

Diana Johnson MP has called for the Bedroom Tax to be scrapped, after the Government announced further Discretionary Housing Payment funding to ease the problems the tax causes.

The Hull North MP believes that the Bedroom Tax is a cruel and unfair measure that hits over 400,000 disabled people and 60,000 households with carers across the country. 80,000 people have been hit with the Bedroom Tax in the Yorkshire and Humber region, including 50,400 disabled people.

Is the Coalition making a meal of school dinners policy?

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today pressed the Government on whether they will deliver Nick Clegg’s promise of free school meals to all primary school children from September.


The question follows reports that the policy is being watered down, after being launched in a blaze of publicity at the Lib Dem Conference in September 2013.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today backs local bingo with a visit to call numbers at Mecca Bingo in Hull North’s Clough Road.


The event, which officially launched the Bingo Association’s ‘Boost Bingo’ campaign, sees free games of bingo played in nearly 400 clubs around Britain.


The Boost Bingo campaign, calls on the Coalition Government to bring tax on bingo in line with other popular leisure pursuits. Most other gambling activities are taxed at 15%, but the bingo industry has been subjected to bingo duty at 20%.
