Hull MP calls for longer term commitment to offshore wind energy

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has called for longer term backing for offshore wind energy following her attendance at the Siemens careers awareness event held in Hull today.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "It was great to see so many local people registering their interest in the Siemens green energy jobs that are coming to Hull.

"It has taken several years and a combined effort from Hull City Council, local MPs, East Riding Council, the Humber LEP and Chamber of Commerce, along with local businesses working together, to secure this investment for Hull.

"In urging local people to grasp this opportunity to the full, we also need to make sure that the Government keep their promise of the National Wind Energy College being built in the Humber area, to boost skills locally.

"We must also take seriously the worries expressed recently by the CBI that we need a longer term commitment from the Government beyond 2020 to support the offshore wind energy industry that could bring so many more jobs to Hull."
