Hull MP confronts Ministers on unfair cuts to Hull City Council

Speaking in the Commons today (27 February), Hull North MP Diana Johnson asked for a Parliamentary debate on why the heaviest council cuts are being imposed on the poorest areas.

Diana Johnson MP told the Commons: "Council tax rises are one factor in the cost of living crisis.

"Could we have a debate on how Coalition funding distribution gives the biggest cuts to the most disadvantaged areas and is deliberately calculated, so that no matter what efficiencies are found by places like Hull, they still have to increase council tax and cut local services?"

The exchange took place in Business Questions in the Commons today, as Hull City Council meets to set its budget for 2014/15.
