Hull MP raises latest reports of delay to Hull's A63 upgrade in Commons

Speaking in the Commons today, Hull North MP Diana Johnson raised today's media report that the upgrade to Hull's A63 Castle Street could now be delayed until the 2020s.

This follows recent news that Hull will also not see rail electrification until the 2020s.

Speaking in Business Questions in the Commons today, Diana Johnson MP asked Chris Grayling, the Leader of the House of Commons: "The Leader of the House referred to investing in rail and roads earlier.

"Today's Hull Daily Mail reports that the long-awaited upgrade of the A63 at Castle Street, which is vital to the Hull economy, will be delayed into the 2020s, as will the rail electrification.

"Both are essential and were promised in this decade. May we please have a debate in Government time on whether the Northern Powerhouse is no more than a slogan for places such as Hull?
