Hull North MP calls for action to save Humber jobs at BAE in Brough

Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson has responded to this morning's news of job losses at BAE Systems at Brough.
Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "I'm shocked to hear of 400 possible job losses at BAE Brough. These jobs cuts would be extremely bad for the UK defence industry, for retaining modern engineering skills and for local economies across the so-called 'Northern Powerhouse'.
"Five years ago, we fought on a cross-party basis previous BAE Systems plans for job losses at Brough. Now we need more active support from the Government for winning key defence orders from around the World exactly what we're told is meant to happen with Brexit. The Government could also help BAE Brough by ordering the new Hawk Trainer fleet for the Red Arrows from BAE Systems. The Government have dodged this question whenever I've raised it in the Commons over the past few years."
The Hull North MP also spoke in the Commons rejecting the suggestion by a Government Minister that Siemens green energy jobs could replace any jobs lost at BAE Systems in Brough.
