Labour backing for saving Yorkshire mining jobs

Hull North MP Diana Johnson joined Labour Party members to petition in support of saving coal mining jobs in Yorkshire.

The Labour petition comes in response to the threat to Kellingley in Yorkshire and Thoresby in Nottinghamshire. There were 56 Yorkshire coal mines in 1984 only two remain now.

1,300 local jobs are at risk at Kellingley, the news coming weeks after Hull received the boost from Siemens of an initial 1,000 new local jobs in green energy.
