Lib Dems and Tories cut Hull's council services most again

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has commented on today's local government settlement for Hull.

Diana Johnson said: "On top of the unfair cut of 25% of Hull City Council's budget between 2010 and 2015, this Coalition Government is imposing on Hull a further punitive cut of £24m in 2015/16. That's a further loss of £126 per Hull household - or 5.7% of Hull's Council budget - on top of losing £628 per household already since 2010.

"This cut to Hull is way above the national average cut of 1.8%. Meanwhile, Windsor and Maidenhead is actually getting a funding increase of 2.5% and Buckinghamshire gets 2.4% more.

"It's crystal clear that this Coalition Government will continue singling out the poorest people in the most deprived areas for the heaviest cuts if they are re-elected next May. Hull will never get a fair deal under the Tories and their Lib Dem Coalition partners.

"Such is the relentless severity of these annual cuts, no matter what efficiency savings are found locally to protect frontline services as much as possible, these basic local services, those who work hard providing them and council tax payers will pay the price for this Government's unfairness to Hull."
