Hull gets 'slap in the face' on regeneration cash

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to the Coalition’s latest spending cuts, announced today, by saying that working families are being asked to pay for the Coalition’s failure.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: “When he inherited an economy that was growing in 2010 the Prime Minister promised to eliminate the deficit by 2015. The fact that the Chancellor came to the House of Commons today with a further deeper round of cuts for after 2015 shows that the Coalition has wasted three years choking off the recovery, failing to achieve growth or cut borrowing.

Hull North MP and Labour Shadow Crime and Security Minister Diana Johnson has written to the Attorney General about the 15 month sentence given to Stuart Hall.

Diana Johnson MP said: “I have written to ask that the Attorney General uses his powers to refer this 15 month sentence for Stuart Hall to the Court of Appeal on the basis that it is unduly lenient and not in the public interest.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has attacked the Lib Dem Business Secretary Vince Cable for resisting Lord Heseltine’s proposals on localising regeneration funding to Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).

Diana Johnson MP asked: “On 18 March, the Treasury accepted Lord Heseltine’s proposals on devolving regeneration funding to local enterprise partnerships from 2015, but in late April the Business Secretary briefed journalists that “we will not be going down that road”.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has reacted to the 290-267 Commons vote against carbon targets on green energy policy by accusing the Coalition of gambling with Hull jobs.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: “By voting against the targets that would have provided much-needed confidence that Siemens and other green investors say they want over long term UK Government policy on green energy, Coalition MPs are gambling with the green jobs that Hull so urgently needs. If Hull fails to get these jobs, they will go abroad.
