MP backs petition for local baby ashes inquiry in Hull

Diana Johnson MP is supporting the online petition established by Hull North Constituent Tina Trowhill asking Hull City Council for a local inquiry into the baby ashes scandal in Hull.

Such an inquiry has previously been held in Shrewsbury. An increasing number of Hull families have been coming forward to say that they had been given incorrect information by Hull crematoriums about what had happened to the ashes of their deceased babies.

Government rejects bid for fairer funding of Humber flood defences

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has expressed disappointment at news that the Government has rejected the bid for extra funding for Humber Estuary flood defence works.
 
Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: “So far the Government has announced £86m for Humber Estuary tidal flood defence works over the next six years. This is less than 10% of what the Environment Agency says the Humber Estuary needs in the next decade. 
 

Hull let down again on rail electrification

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to today’s announcement by the Transport Secretary Patrick Mcloughlin about the ‘unpausing’ of rail upgrade schemes.

The decision means that work promised before the General Election to improve rail routes in many parts of the Midlands and the North, that was 'paused' in June, will now restart - albeit with further years of delay.

Hull MP calls for longer term commitment to offshore wind energy

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has called for longer term backing for offshore wind energy following her attendance at the Siemens careers awareness event held in Hull today.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: “It was great to see so many local people registering their interest in the Siemens green energy jobs that are coming to Hull.

“It has taken several years and a combined effort from Hull City Council, local MPs, East Riding Council, the Humber LEP and Chamber of Commerce, along with local businesses working together, to secure this investment for Hull.
