Government Minister to open Newland Avenue community centre

Ed Miliband MP, Government Minister for the Third Sector, is to open a new £2.2 million community centre tomorrow (Friday 22 September) in Hull North's Newland Avenue, accompanied by local MP Diana Johnson.

The ministerial opening takes place from 1pm and the minister, who will be speaking at 2.15pm, will highlight the contribution of faith-based organisations to voluntary sector services and community regeneration.

MP wins battle to reopen Bransholme North Post Office

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today claimed victory in her campaign to reopen Bransholme North Post Office.

The Post Office announced today that the Post Office will reopen at its Lothian Way site from 2 October. This follows it 'temporary closure' on 30 May, due to management difficulties.

MP to call in on key Hull youth organisation

Hull North MP Diana Johnson is to visit the Hull Council for Voluntary Youth Services (HCVYS) to learn more about the organisation's work with young people in Hull.

The visit is to take place tomorrow (Tuesday 19 September) at the HCVYS offices at 47-49 Queen's Dock Avenue, Hull HU1 3DR at 3pm.

HCVYS is a voluntary sector organisation that works with youth groups in Hull to promote best practice and build capacity in youth work across the city.

Hull North primary schools compete to design MP's Xmas card

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today launched her second annual competition asking local primary schoolchildren to design her official Parliamentary Xmas card.

This follows the success of the MP's first Xmas card competition held last year. At least nine Hull North primary schools have so far indicated that they will be taking part in the 2006 competition. As many as 2,300 children at these schools have been busy working on their entries since the start of the Autumn term.

MP urges Hull people to join the World's biggest coffee morning

Hull North MP Diana Johnson is encouraging her local constituents to join the World's Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday 29 September 2006.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is in its 16th year and is one of the largest fundraising events in the UK. Last year nearly two million people took part in the fun by hosting or attending coffee morning events across Britain. They raised a staggering £6.5 million between them.

Diana Johnson in Middle East visit

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today (Sunday 10 September) travelled to Israel on a five-day delegation of 15 Labour Parliamentarians.

The tour, organised by Labour Friends of Israel, will include visits to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum and the security barrier on the Northern West Bank. The delegation will also meet Israeli ministers and members of the Knesset, Palestinian Authority representatives in Ramallah, the peace and women's movements, Israeli Labour Party activists, trade unionists and diplomats.
