Hull MP joins fight to double lung cancer survival

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has joined forces with UK lung cancer experts to double lung cancer survival.

With November designated as Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Diana Johnson MP is working with the United Kingdom Lung Cancer Coalition (UKLCC) to support further Government action to improve the lives of lung cancer victims.

The UK has one of the worst lung cancer survival rates in Europe1 and only just under four percent (3.9%) of the current NHS cancer research budget is dedicated to lung cancer, 2 despite being the UK's biggest cancer killer.3

Be safe, be seen on Winter roads

Hull MP backs new move to toughen rules on mini motos

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today (Wednesday 25th October) sponsored a new move in Parliament aimed at driving mini motos from roads.

A Ten Minute Rule Bill from Swindon Labour MP Anne Snelgrove supports an approach to the problem that combines tough enforcement of the law with managed provision of safe legal sites for biking. The Bill asks for changes in the law that would mean mini motos being categorised as motor vehicles; and completely banned from all use on the road.

Hull North MP to discuss Humberside Police with Police Minister

Hull North MP Diana Johnson is to meet Police Minister Tony McNulty MP to discuss the standard of the policing service in Hull.

The meeting is due to take place on 8 November and comes after the latest Police Performance Assessments for the 43 police forces of England and Wales showed Humberside remaining, jointly with Northamptonshire, as the worst performing police force.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed the publication of new data on the success of Hull's secondary school pupils.

The new information released today shows an increase of 27.8% in the number of pupils getting five good GCSEs since 1997.

Hull MP welcomes National Identity Fraud Prevention Week

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today urged her local constituents not to hand their identity over on a plate to fraudsters.

The calls come as Diana Johnson signed a Parliamentary Early Day Motion (EDM) in support of National Identity Fraud Prevention week, being held from 16 to 22 October 2006.

The week aims to raise awareness of the dangers of identity fraud and inform the public and businesses on the steps they could and should be taking to protect themselves from identity fraud.

Hull's Johnson launches bid to be Parliament's top dog

Hull's George Johnson has entered Westminster Dog of the Year 2006, the annual competition for dogs owned by MPs, Peers and political lobbyists.

George Johnson is the eight year-old black Labrador Retriever belonging to Hull North MP Diana Johnson. This will be the second year that George has entered the competition, since he became a 'Parliamentary dog' in 2005.

The winner will be announced at 12 noon on Wednesday 18 October at Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster.
