Diana Johnson MP backs Budget tax cuts

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has welcomed the tax-cutting Budget unveiled today by Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown.
Diana Johnson MP said: “This is a Budget for Britain’s families, jobs and enterprise that shows that a Labour Government is best for Hull.

“The Chancellor Gordon Brown announced that investment in key public services is to set to increase with education spending rising to its highest ever level. This will be good news for Hull’s schools and confirms that education remains Labour’s number one priority.

Hull MP welcomes Government plan on climate change

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed the Government’s newly-published draft Climate Change Bill, the first of its kind in any country.

The draft Climate Change Bill, and accompanying strategy, sets out a framework for moving the UK to a low-carbon economy, demonstrating the UK’s leadership in progress continues towards establishing a post-2012 global emissions agreement.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today paid tribute to the work of Hull MP William Wilberforce and his long Parliamentary campaign to pass the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act 1807.

This Sunday, 25 March 2007, is the 200th anniversary of this historic Act passing into British law. It marked the turning point in the fight to abolish legal enslavement and led to the liberation of millions of slaves around the World.

MP backs Mother's Day call by World Health Organisation

Diana Johnson MP joined international supermodel Liya Kebede today (Friday 16 March) to back a six point action plan to stop the death toll of women and children in developing countries.

The Hull North MP signed up to the campaign by the World Health Organisation and Commonwealth Secretariat calling on Governments worldwide to take action to “Make Every Day Mother’s Day.”
