Hull North MP backs the Big Wild Read

Hull North MP Diana Johnson is backing the Big Wild Read, a campaign to get children into libraries and keep them reading through their long summer holidays.

The campaign organised by the Reading Agency aims to encourage children to visit their local libraries during the summer holiday period so they do not lose any reading skills during the break from school teaching. To support this initiative Diana is donating books, courtesy of The Reading Agency’s publishing partners, to a local library.

Hull MP backs 'Never Again' flood campaign

Diana Johnson MP today announced that she will be holding extra drop-in surgeries in coming weeks to hear more about issues that arose from Hull’s recent flooding.

The Hull North MP also gave her backing to the ‘Never Again’ campaign launched by the Hull Daily Mail.

The drop-in surgeries will be held around the constituency to give an opportunity for constituents who wish to raise concerns with their local MP.

Hull MP demands freedom from fear for shopworkers

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has renewed her backing for a campaign by the retail union Usdaw to tackle abuse against shopworkers.

Diana joined shopworkers in Westminster to sign up to Usdaw’s Freedom from Fear campaign and to remind shoppers that 'It’s your store – respect it'.

A recent Usdaw survey found that a third of shop staff are subjected to vicious verbal abuse every month.

Diana Johnson MP said: “People who run or work in local shops have a right to work free from mindless abuse and intimidation.

MP welcomes boost for flood hardship relief

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed the £2.1 million boost from the Government for hardship relief to those most affected by the recent flooding.

The £2.1 million for Hull was announced by the Government today as Hull’s part of an initial allocation of Government money going directly to 34 local authorities in flood-hit areas for immediate hardship relief.

Diana Johnson MP said: “This is immediate hardship relief to assist those who lost everything in the flood.

Hull MP tackles Yorkshire Water on flood failure

Diana Johnson MP has written to Yorkshire Water on behalf of Bransholme and Kingswood residents "let down" by the private water utility during the recent flooding.

The letter to Yorkshire Water’s Managing Director comes after it emerged that all five water pumps at the Bransholme Pumping Station failed on 25 June.

The Hull North MP also demanded extra investment by Yorkshire Water in Hull’s water management infrastructure.
