Lara wins competition to design Hull MP's Christmas card

Nine-year-old Lara Juncar of Fifth Avenue Primary School has won this year’s competition to design the Christmas card of Hull North MP Diana Johnson.

The winning entry was announced today after being selected by competition Judge William Wilberforce from hundreds of entries submitted by children in primary schools across the Hull North constituency.

Hull MP welcomes independent report on flooding

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has welcomed today’s publication of The June 2007 floods in Hull - the Final Report by the Independent Review Body.

The Hull North MP believes that the findings of the five-month independent probe into the flooding of 25 June adds weight to her petition campaign, launched in August, to have Bransholme Pumping Station upgraded, in order to better protect communities in Kingswood and Bransholme in the event of future flood emergencies.

Last ditch plea to Post Office Ltd over local branch closures

As Post Office Ltd decides the future of two Hull North post offices threatened with closure, Diana Johnson MP has made a final appeal to save the branches.

The call comes in the Hull North MP’s formal written submission to the consultation on Post Office Ltd’s ‘Network Change Programme’, which concluded on Monday 12 November.

Two Hull North post office branches, at 504 Beverley Road and 75 Princes Avenue, face the axe from January 2008.

Hull North MP backs annual Poppy Appeal

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has joined members of Hull’s Royal British Legion collecting for the annual Poppy Appeal.

Diana volunteered for a stint selling poppies at Tesco’s in Hull’s St Stephen’s Centre last weekend.

Diana Johnson MP said: “The Poppy Appeal is an important part of the annual events to remember all those in our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for Britain’s freedom and security – and, indeed, those still making that sacrifice today.

Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson has welcomed measures set out in this week’s Queen’s Speech as “in tune with the modern aspirations of Hull people”.

The Queen’s Speech, the first since Gordon Brown became Prime Minister, sets out the Labour Government’s programme of legislation for the next parliamentary year.

Lib Dems fail to grill Post Office Ltd over closures

Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson chaired a public meeting on Friday evening (2 November) on Post Office Ltd’s proposed closure of two Hull North post offices.

The meeting, held at St Vincent’s RC Primary School, was the only public meeting in Hull North to be attended by representatives of Post Office Ltd during their present consultation period, up to 12 November. The meeting was called by Diana Johnson MP to ensure local people could hear directly from Post Office Ltd and question them on their plans.
