MP jubilant as Tigers make Hull a Premiership city

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has congratulated the players, management and staff of Hull City following their first-ever promotion to football’s top division.

The Tigers’ 1-0 victory in the Championship play-off final against Bristol City, held at Wembley Stadium today (24 May), brings Premiership football to Hull next season, starting in August. Top flight teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool will be regular visitors to the KC Stadium and Hull City will play at the most famous grounds in the country.

Hull MP urges Council to bid for road flood repairs cash

Diana Johnson MP is urging Hull City Council to “get its act together” and apply for Government funding to repair flood damaged roads.

The call comes after the Hull North MP received news from Transport Minister Rosie Winterton MP that Hull City Council has failed to make an application for Government funding to repair an estimated £1.2 million of flood damage to local roads – eleven months after the June 2007 flooding.

Hull MP welcomes new tax break for hard-working families

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed new tax cuts for low-paid and middle income workers in Hull.

In changes announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the House of Commons today (13 May), the personal income tax allowance was raised by £600 to £6035. This will benefit all basic rate taxpayers under 65.

The change in the personal allowance will be backdated to 6 April. It will result in a one-off increase of £60 in the monthly income of basic rate tax-payers in September - and then £10 per month for the rest of the financial year.
