Hull MP launches new local guide on beating anti-social behaviour

The Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has joined Hull North MP Diana Johnson to launch The Hull North Anti-Social Behaviour Handbook.

The handbook, by Diana Johnson MP, provides guidance and advice to Hull North residents and communities for dealing with a wide range of local anti-social behaviour problems – including loitering gangs, graffiti, dumped cars, fireworks and nuisance neighbours.

Hull MP backs children's Summer Reading Challenge

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has backed the Summer Reading Challenge to get 650,000 youngsters across the UK reading throughout the summer holidays.

The Summer Reading Challenge is ten years old this year. It is run by The Reading Agency, the independent charity working to get people reading more, in partnership with the UK library network and supported by children’s book publishers.

Hull MPs win new Government flood cash

Hull Labour MPs have welcomed today’s announcement by Floods Recovery Minister John Healey of a further £7.5 million for Hull.

The money comes from the Government's special Restoration Fund to support continued local efforts to rebuild communities following the floods in June 2007. Ministers have pledged that there will be no strings attached to this funding, so that councils will be able to spend this money as they decide according to local priorities.

MP calls on Hull people to unleash 'petition power'

Local people will be able to petition for action on issues such as graffiti, moving dumped cars or cleaning up fly-tipping under new rights proposed by the Labour Government.

As the Government launched its charter for boosting grassroots democracy, Hull North MP Diana Johnson has challenged local people in Hull to take up the new powers and force action from Hull City Council.

Hull MP celebrates 60 years of our NHS

With 5 July marking the 60th birthday of the National Health Service, Hull North MP Diana Johnson has paid tribute to the NHS and those who work in it.

Along with the Secretary of State for Health, Alan Johnson MP, Diana will be participating in local events this weekend to celebrate 60 years of the NHS with those who use and work in Hull’s NHS.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: “One of the main reasons why I wanted to be the MP for Hull North was my belief in our NHS - and improving it in Hull.
