Pools Day across England - Lib Dem Fools' Day in Hull

As children and over-60s across England began enjoying free swimming from today (1 April) Hull North MP Diana Johnson expressed disappointment that people in Hull are missing out.

This follows the decision of Hull’s Lib Dem Council to turn down a share of £140 million of funding on offer from the Labour Government.

Diana Johnson MP said: “It’s shameful that Hull’s Lib Dem Council has blocked free swimming for Hull - yet again showing their indifference to the health and well-being of Hull people.

Making Community Payback count in Hull

A new scheme giving communities a greater say in how criminals pay back their debts to society has been welcomed by Hull North MP Diana Johnson.

The plan means that the public can use the internet to choose the sorts of tough physical labour offenders on community sentences should have to do. This follows the launch of branded high-visibility jackets for offenders on Community Payback in December last year.

MP welcomes Labour Government clampdown on clampers

Diana Johnson MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement that new rules will be drawn up and consulted on to regulate the conduct of wheel-clamping companies.

The statement from the Home Office follows the Hull North MP’s recent informal discussions with ministers and the case earlier this month of Hull North constituent Michael Lea who spent two days living in his van after being clamped by Sector Security Ltd in Hull’s Princes Avenue.

Hull MP claims victory for local blind people

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has claimed victory in her campaign to get more support to local blind people.

Under the changes proposed by the Labour Government in the Welfare Reform Bill 26,000 blind people nationally will be entitled to receive the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance.

Local MP brings open surgery to Tesco

Hull North MP Diana Johnson will hold another open surgery at Tesco in Hull North’s Hall Road on Saturday morning (21 March), between 10am and 12 noon.

Held regularly since last year at venues that have also included Asda at Kingswood and Bransholme’s North Point Shopping Centre, Diana’s open surgeries are in addition to the normal appointment-based surgeries that she holds around her Hull North constituency.

Hull North residents can see Diana at these open surgeries without appointment to raise a range of problems and discuss local and national issues.

Hull MP seeks clampdown on clampers

Hull North MP Diana Johnson is to raise the problem of over-zealous clamping by private security firms with ministers at Westminster.

Diana has been receiving information from local people in Hull about their experience of the activities of a private sector security firm following the case last week of Michael Lea, a Hull North constituent. Mr Lea, a resident of Hull North’s Princes Avenue, spent two days living in his van after being clamped by Sector Security Ltd - and presented with a £250 cash demand for releasing his van.
