Hull MP’s delight at Labour’s new rights for Gurkhas

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed the Home Secretary’s announcement on the right of former members of the Brigade of Gurkhas to live in the UK.

Diana Johnson MP said: “I recently met with a Hull North constituent Jonathan Major, who had served in the Royal Navy for 23 years. He spoke to me with great passion about the exceptional case of the Gurkhas. I have also spoken to him on the telephone this morning about today’s news.

MP backs World Cup bid for Hull

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed the inclusion of Hull in a possible list of World Cup venues for England's 2018 bid.

Hull City season ticket holder Diana Johnson said: "It would be fantastic if the World Cup came to Hull and our KC Stadium.

"England's bid is all about securing a lasting legacy for sport in this country and to inspire our young people to sporting success.

Hull MP urges local people to give views on crime-busting DNA

Diana Johnson MP today encouraged Hull people to give their views in the Government’s new consultation on the future of the national DNA database.

This follows the Home Office’s launch of the consultation entitled Keeping the right people on the DNA database.

The Hull North Labour MP also defended the use of DNA is securing convictions for serious crimes, providing justice to victims of crime and, in some cases, to those who have been imprisoned in miscarriages of justice.

Labour’s smart meters will help Hull people save money on fuel bills

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today said that thousands of Hull people will benefit from the smart meter roll-out that came a step closer this week.

The Government has set out the options for installing the revolutionary kit in homes across Britain and information on what the smart meters should be capable of doing.

Smart meters will mean:
• No more estimated bills
• No more waiting for the meter reader
• More information to help with cutting energy use, saving money and reducing household carbon footprints.
