MP welcomes Government’s freeze on Humber Bridge tolls

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today welcomed the Government’s decision not to approve an increase in tolls for the Humber Bridge.

Diana Johnson MP said: “The Labour Government has listened to the broad coalition of local concerns about the negative impact of further increases in Bridge tolls on people and businesses in our area, especially in this recession.

“There is now further work to do to make the case for reducing or abolishing the tolls. This would boost our region’s economy in the longer term.”


MP hails success of free swimming (outside Hull)

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today joined Sports Secretary Ben Bradshaw in welcoming new figures showing more than one million free swims across the country.

The popular Labour free swimming scheme was started in April this year and has exceeded expectation with 259 councils offering it for people over 60, and 190 for those 16 and under.

Hull MP backs clamper clampdown

Diana Johnson MP has demanded tough new rules to regulate wheel clampers.

The call comes in the Hull North MP’s formal submission to the Home Office consultation on the Licensing of Vehicle Immobilisation Businesses. The consultation finished on 23 July.

In her letter to the consultation, Diana Johnson MP calls for:

• Clearer signage where clamping is taking place and for clamping operatives to provide better contact details and identification.

• A more generous minimum period before a car can be clamped.

MP welcomes Labour investment in Orchard Park housing

Diana Johnson MP has welcomed today’s announcement of £156 million in Labour Government investment for housing regeneration in Hull North’s Orchard Park Estate.

The Hull North MP now demanded that the scheme be subject to full and genuine local consultation with Orchard Park residents and their elected local councillors.
