Hull MP questions loss of 685 Orchard Park council homes

Diana Johnson MP is asking Orchard Park residents what they want from the £156 million of Labour Government housing investment that was announced in July.

The move follows concerns expressed to the Hull North MP by Orchard Park residents about initial plans announced by Hull’s Lib Dem Council to demolish 1,627 council-built homes in Orchard Park, including 1,365 homes still in the council rented sector.

MP welcomes school results rise in Hull

Hull North MP and Schools Minister Diana Johnson today welcomed this year’s GCSE results showing a rise in the number of young people across Hull getting good grades.

Today’s GCSE results for Hull show:

• A 12.9 percentage points rise, to 64.1%, in the number of pupils getting five or more GCSEs at A*-C grade since 2008. This is a big increase of 41.3 percentage points from just 22.8% in 1998.

Hull homeowners focus of new debt advice help

Hull is the focus of a new Labour Government drive to help people struggling with their mortgages to get a grip on their finances and save their homes.

As one of 22 ‘hotspots’ across Britain, homeowners in Hull face a higher risk of repossessions due to high levels of unemployment and numbers of court orders for repossession.

Between April and June this year, there were 190 claims for repossession by lenders against homeowners in Hull.
