Business Rates blow could cost Hull £45.5 million per year

Hull City Council could lose up to £45.5 million in funding for local services each year, following Coalition Government plans announced today by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Meanwhile, Westminster – home to the some of the World’s biggest businesses, shopping streets and tourist attractions – would get to keep the £1 billion it currently contributes to the national Business Rates pool, which is redistributed to other councils around the country.

Hull North MP petitions Parliament for Hull children’s centres

Hull North MP Diana Johnson tonight presented a petition to Parliament on behalf of Hull North parents campaigning against the loss of local children’s services.

The petition to the House of Commons was inspired by the work of parent’s working to save North Hull’s McMillan Daycare Nursery, which has been threatened with closure as part of the cuts agreed by Hull’s previous Lib Dem Council.

MP stands up for Hull women hit by unfair pension plans

Diana Johnson MP today opposed Coalition Government plans to make around 3,000 Hull women wait over a year longer than planned for their state pension.

The Hull North MP slammed the Government’s proposals which leave many women aged 56 and 57 feeling robbed as they face losing up to £10,000 in pension income.

Hull North MP to meet McMillan Daycare campaigners

On Monday (6 June), Hull North MP Diana Johnson will visit McMillan Daycare in North Hull to meet parents campaigning against the loss of the outstanding nursery.

The McMillan Daycare nursery is due to close as part of the cuts to services provided in children’s centres agreed by the previous Lib Dem Council before it was ejected by Hull voters on 5 May.
