MP appeals to Hull's 10,000 'missing' voters

Hull North MP Diana Johnson this morning (Friday 16 January) met Hull Electoral Registration officials to discuss the 10,000 ‘missing’ Hull voters.

The fall is caused by changes made by the Government to voter registration procedures and the drop in the number of voters in expected to worsen in 2016.

Diana Johnson MP has appealed to Hull voters to check that everyone in their household eligible to vote is properly registered by contacting Hull City Council. Under the law, those not registering to vote could be subject to an £80 fine.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: “Lib Dem, Tory and UKIP MPs today voted down Labour’s bid to give regulators the power to force the big energy firms to pass on reduced costs to customers in serious cuts to bills.

MPs launch comprehensive report into NHS contaminated blood scandal

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood today launch a report on improving life for people infected in the NHS contaminated blood scandal.

The report is based on the results of a four-month Inquiry into the quality and sufficiency of the Government support for people infected with HIV and Hepatitis C from NHS-supplied contaminated blood products from the 1970s through to the early 1990s. It can be downloaded from the Haemophilia Society website.

Hull MP reacts to Northpoint Morrisons closure

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to news that the Morrisons store at Hull North’s Northpoint in Bransholme is one of ten to close.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "Given the lack of good full-time jobs in the Hull area, especially in relation to the number of job-seekers chasing them, it's worrying that Morrisons at Northpoint is to close.

"The process on what will happen to jobs at the store will now start, but this is clearly bad news for Northpoint and the Hull area.

Hull MPs to meet Health Secretary over Hull NHS

Hull MPs are to meet the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt next Tuesday afternoon (13 January).

The meeting was arranged to discuss concerns over the former Hull NHS Chief Executive Phil Morley and allegations of a bullying culture in the NHS locally that were highlighted by the Care Quality Commission last year.

It also happens at a time when local A&E services appear to be deteriorating following the Government’s NHS reorganisation and MPs will be raising this issue too.
