Hull MP calls for Government action to close the gender pay gap

Women in Hull North still earn just 91p for every pound a man earns according to official figures from the ONS.
 
Tomorrow (1 July), Hull North MP Diana Johnson will call on the Government to require the independent Equalities and Human Rights Commission to produce an ‘Annual Equal Pay Check’ reporting on Britain’s gender pay gap, and make recommendations for action by Government and employers,  so that progress can be made.
 

New figures show David Cameron’s cuts to Tax Credits could hit three quarters of Hull North children

New figures from Labour show that 71% of families with children in Hull North could be hit be David Cameron’s Tax Credit cuts.
 
Three quarters of the constituency’s children – exactly 75% - are in households who currently receive tax credits.
 
The House of Commons figures also show that well over half of families in Hull North receiving Tax Credits are in work.
 
68% of Hull West and Hessle families receive tax credits, while two thirds of families in Hull East benefit from the payments. 
 

Hull MP raises concern over contaminated blood compensation coming at expense of NHS cuts, after Hunt leak

Diana Johnson MP has told MPs about a letter from the Health Secretary that claims that compensating victims of NHS contaminated blood would mean cuts elsewhere in the NHS.
 
The Hull North MP said in the House of Commons: “On a Point of Order, as you are aware Mr Speaker, following the recent Penrose Report, the House is expecting a statement before the Summer Recess on future arrangements for compensating those effected in the NHS contaminated blood scandal.
 

Hull MP raises latest reports of delay to Hull's A63 upgrade in Commons

Speaking in the Commons today, Hull North MP Diana Johnson raised today’s media report that the upgrade to Hull’s A63 Castle Street could now be delayed until the 2020s.

This follows recent news that Hull will also not see rail electrification until the 2020s.
