Diana Johnson MP this evening presented a petition to Parliament about 10,000 Hull women born in the 1950s who have been adversely effected by Government changes to their pension.
The petition, signed by over 4,000 people from the Hull area, was organised by the Hull WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) Group.
The petition reads:
"To the House of Commons - The petition of residents of Hull North declares that as a result of the way in which the 1995 Pension Act and the 2011 Pension Act were implemented, women born in the 1950s (on or after 6 April 1951) have unfairly borne the burden of the increase to the State Pension Age; further that hundreds of thousands of women have had significant changes imposed on them with little or no personal notice; further that implementation took place faster than promised; further that this gave no time to make alternative pension plans; and further that retirement plans have been shattered with devastating consequences.
The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to make fair transitional arrangements for all women born in the 1950s (on or after 6 April 1951) who have unfairly borne the burden of the increase to the State Pension Age.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "Around 10,000 women in the Hull area who were born in the 1950s are losing out on the retirement pension they had been relying on, having paid into it for decades, as a result of actions by this Government.
"We appreciate that there will always be some people who lose out when the state pension age is altered, but the way the Government has handled this issue has meant that many women have not been given adequate notice and have not been able to plan ahead.
"Nor has there been any thought given to transitional assistance for those who have suffered financial hardship, along with their families, as a result of the way that the changes have been handled.
"I congratulate Hull's WASPI women for all their work in collecting over 4,000 names for this petition, which is being submitted to the Commons alongside the names of many thousands of other women and men from around the country who think that these women are not being treated fairly."
