Seven year old Maisie Sykes of Sidmouth Primary School is the winner of Diana Johnson MP's Hull North primary school Christmas card design competition.
Hundreds of schoolchildren from all over Hull North were asked this Autumn to combine the themes of Christmas and Hull's forthcoming year as UK City of Culture in designing Diana Johnson MP's Christmas card.
The Competition was judged by Rosie Millard, Chair of Hull 2017, alongside Natasha Banke of Hull Children's University.
The Hull North MP will be sending Maisie's winning Christmas card design to hundreds of people across the country. This includes constituents, local, regional and national figures in charities, business, the media and politics - including the Prime Minister.
On Thursday 15 December Maisie delivered her winning card to 10 Downing Street when she travelled, courtesy of competition sponsor Hull Trains, to Westminster. After visiting Downing Street, Maisie and her family joined Diana Johnson MP for tea at the House of Commons.
Diana Johnson MP said: "Early in the Autumn school term I asked Hull North primary school pupils, working with Hull Children's University, to design my official 2016 Christmas card.
"Today I am very pleased to announce that Maisie Sykes of Sidmouth Primary School is the competition winner. Maisie produced a great design that beat strong competition from hundreds of others. I'm told that Maisie has caught my likeness especially well!
"Whenever I've asked Hull North children to design my Christmas card, it always produces a better and brighter design than the run-ofthe-mill ones. With 2017 being Hull's City of Culture year, I think that it's all the more important to showcase the talent of our young people in Hull.
"There are prizes for the winner and the runners up, for which I thank our local sponsors who have made this competition so special. I also thank Rosie Millard and Natasha Banke for taking on the tough task of choosing the winner. Above all, I thank the hundreds of Hull North children and their teachers who make this competition possible."
Competition Judge Rosie Millard, Chair of Hull 2017 City of Culture, said: "I was impressed by the many wonderful entries from Hull North schoolchildren.
"They showed the creative talent in Hull's schools, combining the Christmas theme with that of Hull 2017 catching the essence of what UK City of Culture is all about.
"With so many excellent entries, selecting a winner wasn't easy. However, all the judges loved Maisie's design and she is a worthy winner."
