Diana Johnson MP was today appointed to serve as a Government Education Minister.
The Hull North MP becomes a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
Diana Johnson MP said: "Although it is a privilege to serve in the Labour Government, I am especially pleased to be doing so in the field of education.
"Hull schools have moved forward since 1997, but further progress in raising standards is vital for Hull's future prosperity. Through visiting every school in Hull North since becoming the local MP in 2005, I have seen for myself how vital it is that we motivate and inspire children and parents from all backgrounds about the worth of learning.
"Investment and reform to give youngsters the skills to do well for themselves is the key to our Premiership city achieving a Premiership performance in education."
Diana performed her first duty as a Minister today by representing the Government in a Westminster Hall debate on home education.
