Diana Johnson MP's speech in Humber economy debate

Nov 27, 2012

Diana Johnson (Kingston upon Hull North) (Lab): I congratulate my right hon. Friend the Member for Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle (Alan Johnson) on securing the debate and setting out, in his usual erudite way, an excellent analysis of the situation in the Humber, the possible solutions the Government should actively consider adopting and how they could secure the future of the Humber economy. I pay tribute to the contribution of the hon. Member for Cleethorpes (Martin Vickers).

Diana Johnson MP's Yorkshire Post article on women barred from being bishops

Nov 26, 2012

WOMEN are the mainstay of the Church of England in communities up and down our country. The theological argument over women being ordained as priests was won exactly 20 years ago.

Since this 1992 vote, around 3,000 women have been ordained as priests. This reform has been a huge success, in keeping with the British tradition of reforms that put new wine into old bottles.

The next natural step is to see some of the excellent ordained women priests now move into positions of leadership in our Church as bishops.
