Hull MP backs Bill to exempt unpaid family carers from the Bedroom Tax

Hull North MP Diana Johnson was today (Tuesday 14 October) one of the sponsors of a Labour bid to exempt carers from the Bedroom Tax.

Barbara Keeley MP presented a Ten Minute Rule Bill to the House of Commons with the aim of exempting carers and those needing overnight care from the Bedroom Tax. Figures from the Department of Work and Pensions tell us that 60,000 carers are affected by the Bedroom Tax.

Local MP supports drive to reach carers in Hull

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has pledged her support to carers across Hull as part of the national awareness campaign Carers Week, which runs from June 9 to 15.

One in eight adults are carers, but the very nature of caring - of being there for a loved one facing ill health or disability - means too often people don't identify themselves as carers and, therefore, miss out on support.

Without the right help and support, caring can have a serious impact on their physical and emotional health, work and finances.
