Hull MP raises Kingswood flood risk worries in Commons

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today confronted Treasury Ministers with the contradiction between Government policy over flood insurance and their Help to Buy scheme.

This follows recent reports that Kingswood in Hull North is the country's leading area for new homes sold under the Coalition's Help to Buy scheme.

MP highlights flooded Hull firm’s 490% hike for insurance

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today told the House of Commons about a Hull business that faces an annual insurance bill increase from £1,100 to £6,500.

The increase follows the firm being flooded in the December 2013 East Coast tidal surge.
Diana Johnson MP told the House of Commons in Business Questions: "I am sure the Leader of the House will be concerned to learn that the insurance premium of a small business that was flooded during the December tidal surge in Hull has been increased from £1,100 to £6,500, as a result of which it is unlikely to remain viable.
