Hull North MP Diana Johnson has responded to news that a National College of Wind Energy will be based in the Humber area.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson said: "This announcement confirms Hull's status as a leading UK centre for green energy - especially in wind and marine technology.

Hull MP slams Green call to boycott Siemens

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has criticised a demand from Hull’s leading Green Party activist for a boycott of Siemens over their business links with Israel.

The call by Hull Green Party spokesman Martin Deane came this morning (Friday, 29 August) on the David Burns Show on BBC Radio Humberside.

Diana Johnson MP said: “After the four years we spent working to attract the Siemens green energy jobs to Hull, I’m flabbergasted that the Hull Green Party appear to want a boycott of Siemens. 

Labour backing for saving Yorkshire mining jobs

Hull North MP Diana Johnson joined Labour Party members to petition in support of saving coal mining jobs in Yorkshire.


The Labour petition comes in response to the threat to Kellingley in Yorkshire and Thoresby in Nottinghamshire.There were 56 Yorkshire coal mines in 1984 – only two remain now.


1,300 local jobs are at risk at Kellingley, the news coming weeks after Hull received the boost from Siemens of an initial 1,000 new local jobs in green energy.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has slammed David Cameron’s statement in today’s Prime Minister’s Questions that he is reviewing state support for green energy.


Diana Johnson MP said: “While rejecting Labour’s energy price freeze, which he could introduce now, the Prime Minister now threatens to cut support for renewable energy.
