Diana Johnson MP is campaigning to save 400 skilled local jobs that are under threat at BAE Systems in Brough and has asked the Government to renew the 1970s-built Red Arrows fleet to help save the jobs. If the BAE Systems Brough site closes it would mean any new Red Arrows fleets would have to be bought abroad and a loss of sovereign defence manufacturing capability in the UK.

Hull MP demands new industrial policy for Britain

With Labour’s Leader today visiting Tata steelworkers in Scunthorpe, where jobs are under threat, Hull North MP Diana Johnson demanded an industrial policy “for our country” from the Government.
 
Speaking in Business Questions, Diana Johnson MP asked the Leader of the House of Commons Chris Grayling: “Three years ago Hull’s caravan manufacturers had to fight off the Caravan Tax, which would blight their industry.
 

Budget 2015 - Your views

The budget last week set out what the current Coalition Government would do if they won the next General Election.

One or two bits of it I agreed with - like the commitment to finally include Hull companies in the scheme to give a grant to install super-fast broadband. This is a welcome boost for business and something I have been asking for since last year.

But on the whole I was struck by the difference between the picture painted by George Osborne and the picture I see every day when I am at my advice surgeries or out and about in Hull.
