Commons backs Hull MP's bid to modernise law regulating abortion

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today launched her Reproductive Health (Access to Terminations) Bill that aims to decriminalise abortion in England and Wales. 
 
Under Victorian criminal laws dating back to 1861 – before women had the right to vote – abortion remains illegal in England and Wales. A woman who has an abortion and anyone who helps her to have an abortion, unless it falls within the specific conditions of The Abortion Act 1967, currently face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment - the harshest such penalty in Europe.

On Monday 13 March, Diana Johnson MP will propose the Reproductive Health (Access to Terminations) Bill in Parliament.
 
The Bill would decriminalise abortion in England and Wales. 
 

Hull MP slams "damp squib" Budget

Hull North MP Diana Johnson has attacked today’s “damp squib” Budget, delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
 
Speaking in the House of Commons this afternoon, Diana Johnson MP said that there was no sign that Hull is getting a fair deal from the Tory Government. 

Hull MP asks why London is getting ten times the transport investment of Yorkshire and Humber

Hull North MP Diana Johnson today attacked the continuing unfair distribution of transport infrastructure investment between London and parts of the ‘Northern Powerhouse’.
 
The latest Treasury figures showed that in 2016-17 transport infrastructure investment is £1,943 per head in London, but only £190 per head in Yorkshire and the Humber – a 10 to 1 ratio.
